Minister
Mary Edwards
Minister Mary Edwards is probably best known for her community revitalization work alongside her late
husband, Rev. Eddie K. Edwards.
Together they founded the
Joy of Jesus Ministries, which is located on the eastside of Detroit near City Airport. This work earned them the 107th Point of Light Award from former President, George Bush, Sr.
Minister Edwards was the founding director of
Camden House, the family life center of the ministry. As a result of this successful outreach, she was chosen to serve as a consultant to the advisory team in our nation's capital commissioned by Congressman John Conyers to study the “Root Cause of Substance Abuse.”
In 1996, Minister Edwards retired from Joy of Jesus and began new initiatives.
These
include:
-
His Lovely Wife
Ministries, a support group for women in spiritual leadership. For many years, she hosted a weekly radio program called, “Ask the Pastor's Wife,” over Radio Stations WLQV and WMUZ, in the Metropolitan Detroit Area.
-
In 1998 she established
The Called and Ready Writers, a Christian writers guild that teaches self-publishing:
TheCalledAndReadyWriters.org
-
Following the passing other husband, she launched her latest ministry, Widows With Wisdom, established to help widows make the adjustment to living alone following the loss of their spouses.
WidowsWithWisdom.org.
-
In addition to these ministries, Minister Edwards has authored five books and has recently released her autobiography.
Born Grown, BornGrown.com. Her most cherished book is titled,
Ponderings From the Heart of Mary. (Her late husband, Rev. Edwards, painted the cover).

In 1989 she received the “Others” Award from the local Salvation Army. This is one of the highest awards presented by the Salvation Army to those who care.
-
In 2002, the Women's Informal Network (W.I.N.) voted her one of the “Most Influential African American Women in Metropolitan Detroit.”
-
A significant testimony from her autobiography appears in the very first Chicken Soup for the African American Soul book released in September of 2004. Minister Edwards is the only Detroiter in that book.
-
In 2007, Minister Edwards was presented the Guiding Spirit Award from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
-
In addition, she has received the Spirit of Detroit Award in recognition of exceptional achievement, outstanding leadership, and dedication to improving the quality of life.

Born in Toronto, Ont., Canada, Minister Edwards is an international author and speaker.
She is a member of Christian Tabernacle Church in Southfield, Michigan, under the leadership of Dr. James L. Morman.
You will often hear Minister Edwards quote the scripture from Proverbs 13:22,
“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, and the wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just.”
Minister Edwards believes in leaving a legacy behind.
